Robert-Garguah-JrCo-Founder / Executive Director

Mr. Robert D.G. Garguah, Jr was born unto the blessed and loving union of Mr. Gledebem J. Garguah Sr and the beautiful Mrs. Beatrice B. Garguah in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. After escaping in terror from the atrocious civil war in his native Liberia as a child, Mr. Garguah and one sibling fled to the Ivory Coast and Ghana respectively and settled there as refugees with his Uncle.

Mr. Garguah knows a thing or two about struggle and poverty to the extent of having absolutely nothing; but even as a child, he had no choice but to grasp the importance of resilience and always clinging to hope even when circumstances surrounded him described hopelessness. At three months-old, Mr. Garguah father left for the United States of America. As the story is told, leaving his son (Mr. Garguah) at such a early age to travel thousands of miles away across the Atlantic, was the toughest decision Mr. Garguah Sr was faced with; but to ensure a better life for his children than he had growing up, he knew he had to leave. Mr. Garguah’s mother, the strong and beautiful Mrs. Bea B. Garguah soon became the mother and father; but as Mr. Garguah turned two years old, his mother too had to leave for a brief visit to the United States of America with absolutely no intent to stay. The unexpected happened, a brutal civil war that will later killed over 250,000 innocent Liberians and mercilessly destroyed a nation, erupted.

At three years old, Mr. Garguah was unexpectedly left to be taken care of by friends to his parents in the heat of a senseless civil war; the premise of a war he still doesn’t quite understand today. As Mr. Garguah grew up, he knew his parents were not around, but he always felt their love in every step of the way. The struggle, pain, and suffering were enormous, but the ending of the story painted another picture. After eleven (11) long years of forced separation, Mr. Garguah reunited with his parents and siblings in the United States of America, in winter, 2003.

Immediately upon Mr. Garguah arrival in the U.S.A., he enrolled at Benjamin Banneker high School, College Park Georgia, and two years later graduated from Creekside High School, Fairburn, Georgia, as a regular Honor Student. Mr. Garguah understood that to make a serious impact in his native Liberia, one must adequately prepare his/her self. So he took advantage of the many scholarship opportunities by maintaining his grades; and proved fruitful when Mr. Garguah was awarded the Hope Scholarship, which allowed him to attend college without paying a penny! He immediately enrolled at Atlanta Technical College, where he obtained a degree in Culinary Arts. At Atlanta Technical College, Mr. Garguah distinguished himself as an engaging student leader, humanitarian, visionary leader, but most important of all, an outspoken and fearless voice of the voiceless.

After obtaining his first degree, Mr. Garguah felt it was time to return and help in his country Liberia rebuilding process. In said spirit, God gave him a vision to ensure that no child is deprive an education only because their parents can’t afford to send them to school. The Movement for Education 1st, Country 2nd (ME1C2) was birthed in 2009. The following year, Mr. Garguah was set to return to his native Liberia for the first time in fourteen (14) years. Mr. Garguah four weeks trip to Liberia was the best Christmas trip ever. Visiting some of the poorest communities in and outside of Monrovia, and seeing young boys and girls struggled just to survive and obtain an education brought tears to Mr. Garguah eyes; but it also reaffirmed his commitment to ensure that those children were in school and not being abuse. There Mr. Garguah collaborated with a likeminded organization, Liberia Initial for Less Fortunate Children (LILFOC).

Upon Mr. Garguah return to the States from Liberia, in his continuous quest to broaden his horizon, Mr. Garguah enrolled at Strayer University, Morrow Georgia, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Business Administration Degree, with focus in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Furthermore, Mr. Garguah has served in capacity of Vice President, Men’s Ministry at the International Christian Fellowship (ICF) the youngest man to have served in said capacity in church history, Chairman, Youth-Wing, Liberian Association of Metro Atlanta (LAMA), to name a few. Mr. Garguah currently works for one of the top Hotel Management Brands in the world, the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), where he has served in leading capacities from Banquet to Front Desk operations; from the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Holiday Inn & Suites, and the Staybridge Suites.

Mr. Garguah has won several laurels, including Best Philanthropic Award, Humanitarian of the Year Award, Liberian Entertainment Best Community Crusader Award, Just to name a few.

Through Humanity, Mr. Garguah hopes to continue to serve his people by providing those underprivileged the quality education they need to become productive citizens. He also hopes to continue to share hope, opportunity, achievements, and that others can look at his humble and tested beginnings as a source of motivation that if he could, they too can. Whenever Mr. Garguah is opportune to state his source of motivation with regards to establishing himself as a Humanitarian/Advocate, it doesn’t take long before his personal life story is reflected upon.

Mr. Garguah strongly believes that Education is unequivocally the route out of poverty; and in the 21st century, education can’t be a luxury, it’s rather an economic imperative all Liberians should have access to without going to bed hungry.
